I tried the limited-time menu item, "Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken and Pork Kimchi Set Meal"!
The other day, I tried a limited-time menu at Karayama, so in this blog, I'll share my experience.
Here’s what I ordered!
This time, I had the "Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken and Pork Kimchi Set Meal." I was excited even before taking a bite, knowing that the fried chicken would be delicious and the pork kimchi would pair perfectly with rice.
Karayama’s limited-time menu items are usually available for about a month, so if you’re interested, it’s best to try them as soon as possible! I made sure to bring the 100-yen discount coupon I received during my last visit and headed to the restaurant.
The Atmosphere of the Restaurant
I visited a little after the lunch rush, so the dine-in area was fairly empty. However, there were still plenty of takeout customers, reaffirming the popularity of their fried chicken. After all, frying food at home can be a hassle, and the convenience of easily taking it to go is likely one of the reasons for its popularity.
Tasting Report
Looking at the menu, the limited-time item was prominently displayed. There was also an option to order the set meal without the pork kimchi, but this time I didn’t hesitate to choose the "Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken and Pork Kimchi Set Meal" (979 yen including tax).
Set Meal Contents:
- Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken (2 pieces)
- Pork Kimchi
- Rice
- Miso Soup
- The classic complimentary item, "Salted Squid" (all-you-can-eat!)
Taste Impressions
✅ Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken
The sharp spiciness of the chili peppers adds just the right kick, making it surprisingly easy to eat. The fried chicken was hot and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The portion size was perfect, allowing me to enjoy it until the last bite without getting bored.
✅ Pork Kimuchi
This dish also has a mild spiciness, making it easy to enjoy. The special sauce is well-coated on the pork shoulder, making it a perfect match with rice—you’ll find yourself reaching for more. Since the flavor isn’t too strong, even those who aren’t fond of spicy food can enjoy it.
Not Enough Rice...!
The "only problem" with this set meal is that you’ll run out of rice too quickly!
- Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken
- Pork Kimuchi
- The classic complimentary item, "Salted Squid" (all-you-can-eat!)
…since everything pairs perfectly with rice, I found myself running out of it before I knew it. I slightly regretted not ordering a large portion of rice (for an additional fee). If you plan to try this set meal, I highly recommend ordering a large serving from the start!
Payment & Special Offers
This time, I used a 100-yen discount coupon, and the total came to 879 yen including tax.
On top of that, I finally reached 10 store-specific loyalty points that I’ve been steadily collecting. I earned a coupon for a free set meal of my choice next time! It’s really satisfying when these small efforts add up and pay off like this (haha).
