I recently tried a new menu item released by Matsuya, so I'd like to share my thoughts in this blog post.
This time, I tried the "Negi Yuzu Umashio Thick-Cut Pork Kalbi Bowl." Although spring is still a little ways off, this dish has a refreshing flavor that feels like a preview of the season. Curious about how it actually tastes, I headed to the store to find out.
When I arrived at the restaurant, I placed my order as usual through the mobile app. I didn’t use the app much last month, so I’m currently at the Bronze rank. However, the mobile order offers better rewards compared to buying a ticket from the vending machine, so I plan to gradually build up my points again. Recently, new menu items often come with discount coupons right after their release, but this time there were none, so I ordered the regular size for 690 yen.
And here is the bowl that was actually served. While it’s hard to convey through photos, the subtle, refreshing aroma of yuzu is truly appetizing. The generous amount of green onions covered in savory yuzu salt sauce sits atop thick-cut pork kalbi, making the dish look and smell absolutely delicious.
Upon tasting it, I found that the savory yuzu salt sauce perfectly complements both the pork kalbi and the green onions, creating a wonderfully refreshing flavor. At first, I was a bit concerned that there might be too many green onions, but the generous portion of pork balanced it out perfectly, so it wasn’t an issue at all. This refreshing taste would be great even during the hot summer months when you might not have much of an appetite. It definitely feels like a dish best enjoyed from spring onward.
So, if you’re looking to get a head start on spring with a light, refreshing rice bowl, I highly recommend the "Negi Yuzu Umashio Thick-Cut Pork Kalbi Bowl"! It’s reasonably priced at 690 yen for a regular size, including miso soup, making it an easy and satisfying meal to enjoy anytime.
