While out and about, their sign caught my eye, and craving a taste after quite some time, I stopped by "Dotonbori Kamukura Shinjuku Keio Mall." Located inside the underground shopping mall "Keio Mall," directly connected to Shinjuku Station, its greatest appeal is being able to visit comfortably regardless of the weather. Operating hours are generous, running from 7:00 AM to 11:30 PM (L.O. 23:00). The counter-seating interior has a fast turnover, and seeing that I could grab an open seat right away made the decision to drop in an easy one.

I ordered the staple item from the ticket vending machine: "Oishii Ramen" (850 JPY incl. tax). When the bowl arrived, a large slice of chashu pork sat right in the center, surrounded by a generous amount of napa cabbage simmered together with the broth. Without having to add tons of extra toppings, enjoying it simply with the cabbage and the broth infused with its natural sweetness and umami is the true essence of Kamukura. With the substantial slice of chashu included, it felt completely satisfying without adding anything else. The broth is pleasantly non-greasy, gentle on the palate, and remarkably easy to drink. Smooth, slurpable noodles paired with the crisp bite of cabbage naturally keep your chopsticks moving. And the treat saved for the second half is the spicy seasoned chives available right on the counter. Adding them halfway through infuses the mellow broth with fragrant chives and a subtle kick, creating a wonderful change of flavor. I was able to enjoy every single sip right down to the last drop without ever tiring of the taste.
