Matsuya's New Menu! A Taste Test Review of the Simmered Tomato Chicken Set Meal | Introducing Cost-Saving Payment Methods

The other day, I had the opportunity to try Matsuya's new menu item, so this time, I'd like to summarize my experience in a blog post.

This time, I ordered the "Simmered Tomato Chicken Set Meal." I'm curious about how the chicken, coated in tomato sauce, tastes. For the first two weeks after its release, there's a ¥50 discount coupon available, so if you're planning to try it, it's best to take advantage of this deal.

Take Advantage of Cost-Saving Payment Methods!

I headed to the restaurant, avoiding the lunchtime rush, and placed my order as usual via Mobile Order.

Moreover, in March 2025, there's a 10% PayPay cashback campaign for purchases over ¥800! It's a great opportunity to enjoy a meal at a discount.

With PayPay, the cashback amount appears on the screen immediately after payment, making it easy to track and super convenient. I wish other payment methods would adopt this feature too!

Time to Dig In!

And here it is! The dish was served with generous chunks of slow-simmered chicken, looking incredibly delicious. Plus, it comes with Matsuya’s signature potato gratin, "Dauphinoise", making me even more excited to see how it tastes.

Now, for the actual tasting...

The chicken is as juicy and flavorful as ever! While the tomato sauce is the highlight, I was surprised by the bold garlic flavor, which adds a strong and satisfying kick. The portion size is also quite generous, making it a very fulfilling meal.

However, one thing I noticed was the size of the chicken pieces. Since they’re quite large, eating with a spoon felt a bit tricky. Personally, I think cutting them in half would make it easier to enjoy with the tomato sauce. In the second half of my meal, I actually switched from a spoon to chopsticks instead! (LOL)

Thoughts on the "Dauphinoise"

I was curious about the potato gratin "Dauphinoise", but when I tried it, the tanginess of the tomato sauce stood out quite strongly. Personally, I would have preferred to enjoy it separately rather than mixing it with the sauce. This might be a matter of personal preference.

Summary

There were a few minor concerns about ease of eating, but the taste was absolutely delicious, making it a highly satisfying dish!

If you're interested, be sure to try it at your nearest Matsuya!
