Katsuya's New Release Is an Unapologetically Hearty Feast! Spotting the Intriguing Limited-Edition Menu

Whenever I walk down the street and spot "Katsuya," the popular tonkatsu specialty chain, I find myself instinctively heading inside. Every time they announce a new limited-time menu, my immediate reaction is, "Guess I have to check this out!" It has practically become second nature.

Opening the menu at the storefront, I was greeted by the bold slogan: "Be Greedy! Stuff Your Cheeks!!" Captivated by the visual of an oversized plate piled high with comfort favorites, I ordered this limited-edition special without a second thought.

Fried Rice × Teritama × Deep-Fried Goodness! Taste Testing the "Greed Plate"

The dish I ordered was the "Fried Rice & Teritama Mixed Rice Greed Plate" (¥979 including tax / ¥980 at locations with ticket vending machines).

The moment it was brought to the table, the overwhelming presence of the oversized platter instantly caught my eye.

On the right side sits the signature fried rice, speckled with vibrant scrambled eggs. Scooping it up with a spoon reveals nicely separated, aromatic grains, and the rich savory flavor of the house sauce spreads across your palate. On the left side is the "Teritama Mixed Rice"—steamed white rice tossed in sweet-savory teriyaki sauce, topped with a jiggly soft-boiled onsen egg, shredded nori seaweed, and chopped green onions. Breaking the egg with chopsticks sends rich yolk flowing into the sauce, transforming each mouthful into a delightfully creamy, savory indulgence.

In the center, you'll find a crispy sauce-dipped katsu (pork cutlet), golden and juicy karaage (fried chicken), and a nostalgic Japanese red wiener sausage. The crisp shredded cabbage on the side also serves as a refreshing palate cleanser between bites.

Rather than any single ingredient being overly fancy, the real appeal here is the sheer entertainment value of having everyone's favorite comfort staples assembled together on a single "all-star" platter. Deciding where to dig in first brings back the pure excitement of being a kid again.

I was tempted to add Katsuya's classic tonjiru (pork miso soup), but even after applying the official app's ¥100 discount coupon, the total would have exceeded ¥1,000, so I held off this time. While keeping the overall cost under ¥1,000 with the coupon would make it an even easier impulse buy, I still appreciated saving a bit by smartly redeeming the ¥100 coupon on the official app.

【Summary】Perfect for Days When You Want to Channel Your Inner Child and Feast!

Shoveling down fried rice, biting into crispy katsu, and savoring the teritama rice—with two satisfying carbs and multiple fried mains packed onto one plate, it felt just like an "adult kids' meal."

It is the ideal choice for those days when you think, "I want a little bit of everything and just want to feast without holding back!" Since it is a limited-time and limited-quantity menu item, be sure to head to your nearest Katsuya and check it out before it's gone!
