I recently learned that a limited-time menu had been launched, so I immediately went to Unatoto to try it. In this blog, I’ll share my experience from that visit.
My goal this time was the "Nishoku-don" (1,380 yen including tax).
When I hear "Nishoku-don," I usually think of minced meat bowls or seafood bowls, but Unatoto, of course, offers a two-colored eel bowl. According to the article, it was labeled as a "revival," so it seems to have been available before. Since I had never tried it and was particularly interested in grilled white eel (Shirayaki), I decided to visit and give it a try.
Heading to the restaurant!
Since there isn’t a branch near my home, I decided to stop by on my way home after work in Tokyo.
When I arrived at the restaurant and took a seat, the staff recommended the dish to me. Coincidentally, I also overheard another customer ordering the same menu item, which made me feel a bit self-conscious (lol), so I waited a moment before placing my order.
Since it was already quite late, I decided to exercise some self-restraint (lol) and ordered a regular portion of rice. Eating late at night tends to show up on the scale right away... (haha). I also had a free red miso soup coupon, so I made sure to use it.
Finally, the "Nishoku-don" is here!
And here it is!
The wasabi was served separately, allowing me to adjust the amount to my liking.
As I looked at the dish, I wondered—when was the last time I had grilled white eel (Shirayaki)?
To be honest, I wouldn’t say I’m a huge eel fan; rather, I’m more of a casual eater who occasionally craves it. Even so, I can hardly remember the last time I had Shirayaki.
Grilled White Eel × Wasabi Soy Sauce = Perfection!
I immediately tried the grilled white eel with wasabi soy sauce.
…Wow, this is delicious!!
The Shirayaki itself has a very light and refreshing flavor, but the wasabi soy sauce enhances its taste even more. Unlike the usual glazed Kabayaki, it even has a healthy feel to it. I wouldn't be surprised if some people prefer Shirayaki over Kabayaki!
I alternated between the two to keep things interesting, but the combination of wasabi soy sauce and Shirayaki exceeded my expectations—it was even better than I had imagined!
Highly Recommended for Women Too!
I felt that this light and refreshing taste would especially appeal to women. Of course, it's also perfect for casual eel lovers like myself who enjoy it occasionally.
Since this Nishoku-don is a limited-time menu item, if you're interested, be sure to try it soon! Being able to enjoy eel of this quality for just 1,380 yen is something only Unatoto can offer.
