Spacious Parking and Relaxing Tatami Seating: Koshu Hoto Kosaku Ryuo Tamagawa
To keep my beloved Alfa Romeo 156 GTA in top driving condition, I took a scenic road trip toward Yamanashi Prefecture. Along the way, I stopped at Koshu Hoto Kosaku Ryuo Tamagawa, a restaurant renowned for Yamanashi's famous traditional regional specialty, hoto noodles.

A large waterwheel sits proudly on the property, and the parking lot is remarkably spacious and easy to navigate—a huge plus for drivers. It provides plenty of room to stop by with complete peace of mind during a road trip. The building boasts the charming ambiance of a traditional Japanese farmhouse, adorned with tiled roofs and red paper lanterns, and the interior features classic tatami-matted seating. Since I visited outside peak dining hours, the atmosphere was quiet and calm, allowing me to stretch out my legs and unwind.

Tasting the Branch-Exclusive "Chashu Hoto" (¥2,050 Tax Incl.): A Hearty, Flavor-Packed Feast
I had previously tried Kosaku's hoto at their Kofu Station branch, but since I traveled all the way out here, I wanted to order something special. Opening the menu, I spotted exclusive dishes listed under "Tamagawa Branch Specialties," and after a bit of hesitation, I decided on the "Chashu Hoto" (¥2,050 tax incl.).

Served bubbling hot in an iron pot, the hoto was crowned with generous slices of roasted chashu pork lined across the top, chopped green onions in the center, and hearty shiitake mushrooms and vegetables peeking out along the sides.
Pulling the thick, flat noodles from the broth revealed that signature chewy, substantial bite characteristic of authentic hoto. Pairing that with the savory miso broth and tender, meaty chashu delivers an incredible culinary impact.
That said, my honest impression upon digging in was just how overwhelmingly massive the volume of ingredients was. The iron pot was so loaded with vegetables and noodles that I wondered if I could manage to finish it all. The chashu pork itself was certainly delicious, but because standard hoto is already naturally bountiful and filling, regular hoto might be plenty satisfying unless you are a die-hard roast pork fan. Still, being able to try a location-exclusive specialty offered only at this branch made it a truly worthwhile experience.
