The other day, I had lunch at a new restaurant I discovered, and I’d like to share that experience in this blog post.
Restaurant Introduction: "Sushi Matsu"
This is the "Sushi Matsu" I visited this time.
"Sushi Matsu" is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant operated by Matsuya Foods, the company well-known for its beef bowl chain, "Matsuya." However, unlike typical conveyor belt sushi where plates continuously rotate on a belt, here you place your order using a touch panel at your seat, and the sushi is delivered directly to you via a special rail system. This allows you to enjoy freshly prepared sushi every time, which is one of the restaurant’s key features.
I had known about the restaurant for a while but never had the chance to visit. Recently, I happened to be in the area, so I decided to finally try the sushi I’d been curious about.
It’s impressive how Matsuya Foods operates such a diverse range of businesses!
Time to Enter the Restaurant! What’s on the Menu?
Since it was a little past the lunchtime rush, the restaurant was relatively empty. While it’s probably better for the restaurant to be bustling with customers, I actually appreciated the calm atmosphere, especially for my first visit, as it allowed me to enjoy my meal at my own pace.
Before entering, I noticed that the lunch menu was advertised as a great deal, and I initially thought I’d go with one of those options. However, as I browsed through the menu, what really caught my eye was the "Hon-Maguro Zukushi" (2,189 yen including tax).
Although it was over my budget, I decided to splurge since I wasn’t sure when I’d get the chance to come back. As expected from a Matsuya Foods establishment, it came with a complimentary bowl of miso soup, which was a nice bonus. I waited at the counter, excited to see what kind of sushi would be delivered.
Time to Dig In! The "Hon-Maguro Zukushi" Has Arrived
After a short wait, my order was delivered right in front of me via the conveyor rail. At the same time, the tablet displayed a confirmation screen, so I simply picked up my order from the rail and tapped the "Order Received" button to complete the process.
Here is the "Hon-Maguro Zukushi" that I received!
Seeing all the beautifully arranged tuna lined up made me smile without even realizing it (haha). Each piece has a nice thickness and a glossy appearance, making it look delicious even before taking a bite. I was also pleased to see that the miso soup was included at no extra charge. Although the pickled ginger (gari) isn’t shown in the photo, it’s available at each table, and you can help yourself as much as you like.
Tasting Impressions
Taking a bite, I could immediately feel the freshness and thickness of the tuna, making it incredibly satisfying! I was pleasantly surprised by the authentic flavor, which exceeded my expectations. The taste wasn’t overly strong, so I didn’t really feel the need to cleanse my palate with gari, but when I did, its refreshing flavor complemented the tuna beautifully.
Since it costs over 2,000 yen (including tax), it’s a bit of a luxury for a regular lunch. However, considering the quality and portion size, the price felt reasonable. I’m very satisfied to have discovered such a great restaurant. Next time, I’d love to try one of their more affordable lunch menu options.
Payment and Impressions of the Restaurant
The payment was smoothly completed at a self-checkout kiosk. From entering the restaurant to leaving, the entire process was handled without any interaction with the staff. This efficient system likely contributes to their excellent cost performance.
"Sushi Matsu" seems to have locations mainly in Tokyo and Saitama, so if you come across one, I highly recommend stopping by. You’ll definitely be pleasantly surprised! On my way home, I was already thinking about visiting again to try one of their budget-friendly lunch sets.
